Hi, folks! Tanner here. I would like to introduce to you a very special kind of leather today. Most of you are familiar with cowhides and bull hides for your heavier projects but if some of you are looking to make lighter-weight items, such as gloves and things that require thinner leathers, I have a very special article in front of me. It’s goat skin. It’s made from a specially tanned process for touchscreen ability for certain types of gloves which makes a lot of sense because we don’t go ten minutes without touching our phones. If it’s cold out there, you don’t want to take your glove off. In most leather gloves, touchscreen ability is not possible but this leather is made for that.

Let’s take this for a quick show. We take our fingers and then click on anything we have here on the phone. See? This is basically just acting like your finger. Just to show you the opposite case, this is exactly the same goat skin. This is for lining purposes and is not made for touchscreen gloves. As you can see, it doesn’t work. The difference is big.

So, if you’re working or thinking about a project to make gloves, this is an amazing option. If you are a consumer shopping for leather gloves, make sure to ask that question or look for that feature if you want to be able to use your phone when you’re wearing your gloves. These are super soft and incredibly lightweight articles as you see. It can crawl up to palm size. The weight of this article is pretty thin. It’s about 1 ½ ounce (0.6mm - 0.7mm in thickness). It’s perfect for thin gloves so that you can actually feel the touch sensation when you have them on.

There are a bunch of colors available here. The first one was a gray-blue. This is darker green in the same article. It all shows the beautiful grain nature of goats. So as you can see, goat leather has thicker grains because it has thicker hair fibers. That’s why the pores are larger than a sheep or cow. This makes the unique grain structure which I really love. This is just gorgeous.

A lot of color options are available. We are considering offering this to some hobbyists and craftsmen in our Tannerstein experimental leather lab. So, if you’re interested in using this material for any kind of project, please let us know. Ask us a question and just request an email when we have it available. We’re going to bring some small batches of this and the value of it will be about $5 per square foot. Each skin is pretty small. This is about, I think, 3-4 square feet on average so each skin is about 15 to 25 bucks, between that. You can get more than one pair of gloves from one skin.
